What is it Search Engine Optomization?

Search Engine Optomization, or SEO, is the process of organizing the way your website presents information to search engines to get a higher ranking in searches. It involves doing research to find the relevant keywords associated with your site then placing them strategically thoughout your website's content. This can make all the difference in terms of the traffic to your site.

Search engines use programs called "spiders" to crawl the web periodically and make indexes of all the content that they find. This content is then presented to users when they search on a site like Google or Yahoo. All search engines use algorithms to determine the subject of the pages on your website. They also do complex calculations to determine the importance of your website. When a person does a search for a certain term or phrase, the search engines list content in their index based on two things

Relevance: How closely the keywords in the site relate to the keywords in the search
Popularity: How important the webpage is according to the search engine
